The Role
This is an exceptional opportunity for an R&D Manager to define and execute a programme of innovative new research and development projects to maintain and grow the leading market position of the company’s brands in the future.
The overall purpose of the role is to establish and execute a programme of “Blue-Sky” projects targeted at maintaining and growing the technological leadership of the business within the Broadcast Industry.
The successful applicant will work closely with the Global Brands Director and the other Engineering Managers to ensure that the technologies and concepts developed are complementary and consistent with overall company strategy.
Reporting directly to the Engineering Division General Manager, the role holder will ensure there is a ‘stream’ of new products/enhancement concepts which provide the organisation with a competitive advantage with its existing products and the potential for significant growth.
Main Tasks & Responsibilities:
• To formulate, agree and execute the Research and Development strategy ensuring that it meets with organisation and customer requirements
• To lead R&D projects to identify technical requirements and solutions which yield unique product performance attributes that enable the company to maintain and improve its competitive position in the market
• Direct line management of a small team of creative engineers, including performance management, career development, intellectual capital, and capital planning/implementation
Knowledge and Experience Required:
• Strong Engineering background in a technically complex product-based environment
• Hands-on approach to technology development, including experience of leading a team of highly technical innovative engineers.
• In-depth understanding of Intellectual Property management, including managing a patent portfolio
• The ability to develop personal long-term relationships with senior people in-house and in major customer, supplier & partner organisations from a variety of cultures
• A track record of concept and product innovation
The rewards
Salary in the range £65-75K, DOE + benefits
