1312 - General Manager

They are seeking a General Manager to manage a separate company within the Group based in Oman.

Reporting into the Group General Manager, the successful candidate will be responsible for the overall running of the company which provides freight forwarding, project cargo, yard and transport services to a range of customers mainly in the oil and gas and construction sectors.

You will take control, introduce and enforce policies and procedures and build trusting relationships with major customers.

The business employs around 70 staff which include Drivers, Yard Helpers, Warehouse staff, Clerical, Supervisors and Managers. These include local Omanis as well as ex-pat staff.

The business also uses a number of sub contractor carriers who will need to be managed effectively.

Finally the role is based in Muscat, Oman and will involve travelling throughout Oman and other GCC countries.

Knowledge and Skills:

To meet this unique challenge, you will be an accomplished General Manager with commercial experience gained in the GCC.

You must have experience of managing a logistics operation and you must be able to generate revenue and profits through personal involvement with clients.

Your primary sector experience should be in the oil and gas sector and exposure to the construction sector is highly desirable – EPC projects etc.

You will have very strong competencies in entrepreneurial leadership, commercial astuteness and in developing and maintaining customer relationships based on service excellence.

Candidates for the position will also need to demonstrate the ability to organise and efficiently manage a logistics operation supported by strong commercial acumen and excellent knowledge of budgets and financial planning.

You will be able to show that you fully understand the importance of the relationship between sales success and quality of service delivery.

You should be strong on procedures especially relating to HSE matters where the business is considered weak.

You should have excellent organisational, presentational and negotiating skills and able to work closely with the Board and influence company strategy

You should possess excellent communication skills in English and ideally one other language and be able to adapt to rapid changes in a positive manner and work to tight deadlines.

Superb inter-personal skills and instant credibility are essential as you will be inter-facing with a number of people from different backgrounds, nationalities and religions.

You will be resourceful with a flexible outlook, have the ability to multi-task in order to handle competing priorities and be able to fit in to an international dynamic and multi-cultural environment.

Finally you should possess a Drivers Licence and be PC literate particularly in spreadsheets.
