Business Development Manager (Civil Eng/Utilities)
South England - Other
Our client is a civil engineering contractor operating in the UK across a number of sectors including utilities, transportation and infrastructure. They have a number of offices throughout the UK and are a first class business in terms of their reputation and also as a company to work for. Their business has grown steadily over the last few years and as such their structure is evolving.
Our client is an out and out ‘London contractor’ who is very well known and well regarded in their own niche sectors. They have delivered successful frameworks with Thames Water and also British Telecom on a wide range of projects including’ Tunnelling, pipe works, utilities, tunnelling, transportation and bridges
In the South they are looking to appoint a Business Development Manager to oversee all ‘front end’ activities within the business including the proposals team and assist in the future development of the business. The focus in the future will be to chase broader civil engineering jobs and JVs rather than frameworks.
The regional office in the South has been as large as £45 million in turnover at the peak of the last AMP frameworks and is now at approx £17 million It covers a wide range of sectors and over the last 5 years has worked with a number of major clients providing the foundations for growth back up to £45/50 million. There are tremendous opportunities to grow the southern business and having recently secured a substantial framework this will contribute approx £20m pa over the next few years. The challenge therefore is to build non water related civil engineering around this contract and more joint ventures within their peer group which will enable them to pursue larger and more complex projects.
The Business Development Manager:
• Will be at the forefront of spearheading and leading this change
• Will be someone who understands the civil engineering industry in the South of England
• Will come from or be familiar with contracting rather than consultancy
• Will have a technical understanding of civil engineering
• Would find a marketing qualification to be advantageous
