Complex Fund Analyst - Derivatives Middle Office
The City - London
My client is an international asset management company based in the City, London. We are looking to recruit a Complex Fund Analyst to work within the Derivatives Middle Office on a permanent basis.
Salary: £50k - £60k basic, depending on experience
Purpose of Role
To provide support for a new hedge fund including maintenance of the trading and cash positions within the Front Office decision support tool, reconciling and ensure break clearance of differences between the expected trading and cash position and those recorded by the fund administrator. This role will require the candidate to work closely with both the Fund Manager and the Fund Administrator. Over time the candidate will work with internal departments to automate as much of this process as possible to focus on a risk/exception based model.
Main Responsibilities
• Maintain the traded positions on the Front Office decision support tool intraday.
• Assess and manage clearance of breaks in positions on the Front Office decision support tool and the administrators recorded positions.
• Understand the quantum and significant of the difference between the close of business cash balances in the Front Office decision support tool and the opening cash balances provided by the Fund Administrator.
• Manage and monitor the relationship with the Fund Administrator.
• Manage queries from the Front Office in a timely and appropriate manner.
• Oversee the Supplier performance of asset and cash reconciliations, including timely clearance of breaks and management of any NAV impacts.
• Escalate issues that have a significant impact or are not resolved within expected timescales.
• Take direct action to demonstrably maintain and improve the service provided by the Suppliers.
• Work with the DMO team to reduce the amount of manual activity required within the DMO to support complex products.
• Work with Service Delivery and IT to assist in the launch of similar new products and funds.
• Participate in UAT (user acceptance testing) of new systems and processes.
Skills & Knowledge
• Experience of hedge fund accounting/ NAV production and reconciliations is essential
• Good hands on knowledge of investment management operations and multiple asset classes – knowledge of fixed interest securities and derivatives is essential.
• An understanding of reconciliations; their purpose, how they are performed and the management of breaks.
• Broad business knowledge across the remaining investment management value chain covering the full trading cycle from Front Office through booking, confirmation, pricing and fund accounting.
• Strong team work and interpersonal skills including the ability to train other team members.
