Position Description

Our client is seeking a visionary technology leader who can work with a talented team to finalise development and commercialise an innovative and unique e-commerce tool for on-line retailers.

Reporting to the CEO, the CTO is responsible for establishing the company’s technical vision and leading all aspects of the company’s technology development. The CTO is the top technology executive, playing an integral role in the company’s strategic direction, development, and future growth.

The technology will be developed both in-house and with the support of a small number of key external partners. It is expected to go to market in the form of Software As A Service (SAAS).

Key Responsibilities

• Strategic direction of product development – responsible for ensuring all aspects of functionality meet market expectations
• Management of all internal and external development resources as well as provisioning any required software/infrastructure to enable SAAS model
• Aligning all cost/timescales associated with development against business plan
• Significant Client and Investor facing activity such as Board presentations, Pre-sales Activity, Conference Speaking

Experience Sought

• 5+ years CTO / Lead Development experience within software product development environment. Ideally some exposure to SAAS model.
• Significant understanding of e-Commerce Retail business/technology models e.g. how technology aids customer acquisition, pay per click, affiliate programs, web analytics etc.
• Track record in leading and growing internal/external development teams / partner organisations
• Evidence of entrepreneurial vision and suitability to work within a fast growing early stage technology business
• Experience of leading software product development programmes that use:
o XML, HTML, ASP, ASP.NET, Silverlight, AJAX, Web Services, SOAP.
• Experience of managing and directing technology issues around:
o E-commerce solutions, Networks, Database Administration, UI Design, Project Management, OO Modelling, Test Driven Development, Software Patterns, Software Architectures

Location

This role requires somebody who can be based in the North East of England for the majority of their time as well as undertake international travel as appropriate.
