Engineering Manager - Dumfries – hi-tech UK manufacturer – attractive base and benefits

CLIENT – is one of the market leaders in the production of hi-tech rubber belts and hoses for industrial, hydraulic, agricultural and automotive applications , a publicly listed company.
Worldwide employs approximately 24,000 people in different manufacturing, sales and distribution centres. The Dumfries location has approximately 400 employees.

ROLE - reports to the Director of Factory Operations.
To direct and control staff and craftsmen and negotiate and maintain contracts to ensure that land, buildings and equipment are maintained to provide a reliable, safe and capable facility which produces products that conform to the quality parameters defined. As well as the main production plant, this also includes the Fabric Treatment and Polychain facilities.

Principal Responsibilities
Staff comprises of Principal Engineer, Maintenance Engineer, Project Engineer, Electrical Engineer, Health Safety and Environment Officer and 16 craftsmen.
Responsible for equipment design, maintenance, health safety, energy and environment.
R & M budget of 2.6m and project management to a value of 2.5m.
Fixed cost budget 600k


PERSON SPEC - higher weighting more important
o10 – Educated to a minimum of degree level or equivalent in an engineering discipline
o10 - Solid experience in an engineering management role and an ISO9001 (or equivalent) accredited environment - within a Manufacturing environment
o10 – Proven strong project and programme management skills.
o10 – In-depth working knowledge of Plant engineering
o10 - Fully conversant with special purpose equipment design including - steam systems, pneumatics, HVAC & building management.
o10 – Successful track record in management of a multi functional team.
o10 – Current working knowledge of lean manufacturing tools and techniques
o10 – High level of influencing skills, capable of obtaining information on request at short notice
o10 – High level of planning and organization skills used on a daily basis.
o 10 - Highly self aware, recognizing the impact of approach and behaviours on peers, direct reports, customers and other internal and external contacts.
10 - Must have extensive & high value Project Management skills
o9 – Sound level of business acumen, able to demonstrate a clear understanding of the integrated relationships across functions within the business and all relevant engineering issues both internal and external.
o9 – Must be fluent in “technical English” - manufacturing related
o9 – Driver, implementer of change.
