Head of Mechanical Engineering
Berkshire - South East, Thames Valley
Heading a team of Mechanical Engineers, this role seeks to ensure responsibility for managing the resources and the compliance of mechanical building services, containment systems, ventilation systems, mechanical handling and specialised mechanical equipment.
Managing resources for Mechanical Engineering.
Ensure Quality of Engineering in Mechanical Engineering and compliance.
Ensuring integrated safety in engineering designs.
Ownership and maintenance of corporate Facility Mechanical Engineering standards.
Verification of design compliance including all legal regulatory requirements.
Ensure all necessary approvals of appropriate standards (incl. any required from external authorities)
Provide internal engineering design and consultancy capability for Mechanical Engineering.
Responsibilities
Member of the Engineering Team.
Graduate and Staff Development.
Contact with relevant professional institutions, academia and industry.
Introduce best practice into appointed discipline.
Continuing improvements of safety and performance.
Line Management – Leadership motivation.
Qualifications
Minimum of a Degree in a relevant Engineering discipline and a Chartered Engineer.
Member of a relevant Professional Institute.
Knowledge
In depth understanding of engineering design principles and analytical techniques including safety assessment and environmental impact assessment.
In depth understanding of Health and Safety and Environmental Legislation.
Awareness of the financial issues at work within a project environment.
Awareness of ISO 9000 and corporate quality arrangements.
Process and chemical technology issues associated with projects.
Metallurgy associated with product and processing equipment.
Pressure systems.
Fluidic Systems.
Containment.
Materials compatibility.
Pipework, valve selection.
Control systems.
Filtration.
Wide ranging knowledge of appropriate British Standards, Statutory Instruments and European Regulations.
Experience
Extensive experience in cross-disciplined engineering design environment involving the management of resources.
Skills
Excellent written, verbal and oral communication skills at all levels including formal presentations.
Able to interpret and assimilate numerically presented information.
Is able to make systematic and rational judgements in solving posed problems and overcoming obstacles.
Is capable of maintaining a high degree of effectiveness in a multi-task role managing priorities and working to challenging timescales.
Able to deal with corporate issues including contributing to future business strategy and change issues.
