Head of Radiation Protection
To be responsible for the policy, standards and guidance and oversee implementation, monitoring, audit and review of radiological protection.
To manage and maintain staff competence and training and development requirements for personnel engaged in radiological protection activities
To act as first line manager for members of the Infrastructure Health Physics Group carrying out all management functions in accordance with the Line Managers Handbook

Responsibilities

To operate within the company standards relating to Security, Quality, Environment, Safety and Health
To carry out the responsibilities of the Head of Corporate RPA
To manage the Health Physics Technical (Skills) Centre
To establish collaborative functional partnerships with internal and external stakeholders to develop world class performance standards
To define competence standards, and training requirements for radiological roles within the Company, and provide assessment services Managers and other stakeholders as required
To appoint Company RPAs and assess their suitability
To be appointed as an RPA 2000 assessor and represent the Company needs at assessor forums
To develop strategies to implement company policies in nuclear safety, radiological protection and health physics aspects of emergency response to deliver world class radiological assurance

Numerate degree or equivalent in a directly related field
Recognised post graduate professional qualification in radiological protection including certification as an RPA under IRRs 1999
NEBOSH qualification in Occupational Safety and Health is preferable

Knowledge

In-depth knowledge of all regulatory issues in nuclear safety, radiological protection, and health physics aspects of emergency response and dosimetry
In-depth knowledge of current best practice in nuclear safety, radiological protection, emergency response and dosimetry
Knowledge of the Nuclear Installations Inspectorate licence conditions is desirable

Experience

Sufficient experience to be able to demonstrate a track record of achievement in a senior health physics role in the nuclear industry
Experience in managing teams

Skills

Senior Technical Authority in Radiological protection recognised at National Level
Management skills including interaction with people at executive level
Capable of maintaining effectiveness, managing priorities and working to challenging timescales
To have clear, concise, fluent and unambiguous communication skills and report writing
Basic computer literacy in the Microsoft Office suite of programmes
Effective presentation skills

Special Requirements

Post holder will be required to take part in emergency response as necessary Weekends may be required to be worked in exceptional circumstances
