Our client provides international families with wealth management and fiduciary services. The group is wholly owned by management and staff, is independent and relationship driven.

Role:
This role reports to the Executive Director within Legal & Structuring.

The individual will form a key part of the Legal & Structuring team which will consist of a Director, two Senior Managers and three Lawyers.

Role includes:

• Advising clients on a wide range of legal and commercial matters, with emphasis on tax planning, estate planning, inter-generation wealth transfer and succession planning and family arrangements. This will usually involve the use of offshore corporate and trust structures and some drafting of documents.

• Providing advice on strategy and structures for commercial transactions and review commercial contracts and other documents prepared by third parties and advising in detail on tax and commercial legal matters to manage risk both for interested parties and the firm

• Consulting with third party professionals such as solicitors, accountants, merchant banks and tax advisors in the UK and internationally, obtaining external legal opinions on transactions and on detailed tax and legal issues affecting clients and the firm where appropriate.

• Assisting each of the group offices in connection with financial services legislation and other regulatory matters affecting their businesses, maintaining an up to date knowledge base in relation to relevant judgements and legislation affecting their businesses internationally and assist in formulating best practice within each of those offices in connection with that legislation

• Undertake such other duties as the management may from time to time require including those relating to internal business operational responsibilities.

• Line management of all team members including coaching and mentoring.

• Responsibility for the overall efficient operation of the team, ensuring that procedures are followed.

Candidate:
Extensive relevant post qualification experience as a solicitor/barrister/attorney or other qualified lawyer, preferably, but not necessarily, in private practice.
A strong client care/service orientation.
Good experience of advising on and negotiating transactions and legal drafting and the negotiation and finalization of legal documentation.
A knowledge of basic principles of relevant tax law applicable to private clients in any one or more of the UK, the USA, Australia and/or South Africa and a detailed knowledge of tax law in one of these countries would be an advantage.
A good working knowledge of Anglo-Saxon trust law and of the principles of company law in the UK and other jurisdictions.
Excellent inter-personal and communication skills. Good numeracy skills and commercial awareness.
