Mechanical Design/Development Engineer - Naperville (nr Chicago ) USA

This particular business division is the worldwide leader in the design and manufacture of custom battery packs and systems for any portable electronic device or stationary back-up power need.
Mechanical Design Engineer – reporting to the Business Development Manager is responsible for applying engineering principles to design, modify or develop products, facilities, testing routines, machines and equipment which includes the following:
Works with marketing, sales, and customers to design products
Performs analytical studies or engineering proposals to develop designs for products such as engines, equipment, machines, components and structures.
Uses computer-assisted engineering software and equipment
Analyzes data to determine feasibility of product proposal
Analyzes engineering proposal, process requirements and relevant technical data
Determines feasibility of new or modified equipment and other technical or economic factors.
Monitors manufacturing or building of prototype.
Plans and develops experimental test programs.
Analyzes test data and reports / Works with research and other engineers
PERSON SPEC – higher weighting more important:-
10 - Current experience, and successful track record as a Mechanical design engineer
10 - Experience and ability to conceptualize product designs based on customer provided needs/specifications
10 - Strong knowledge of design for manufacturing
10 - Current experience in manufacturing operations (OEM) or international subcontract manufacturing operations (CEM/EMS)
10 - Degree level equivalent, in an engineering/technical discipline e.g Mechanical
10 - Solid Project management skills, experience and delivery
10 - Good understanding of practices within the manufacturing environment - FMEA, Capability Studies, Gage R&R, DOE, Statistical Control, DR etc.
10 - Interpersonal skills - exceptional listening, understanding, influencing and communication (written and verbal), and presentation skills - politically astute
10 - Leadership personality - role model, standard-setter - communicative, respected, resilient, energetic, creative with good customer facing skills
