Project Manager - Energy Storage and Distribution
Loughborough - Midlands (West)
The Energy Storage and Distribution Programme comprise a number of parallel projects, ranging in size up to ~£10M. Focus areas include electricity network technologies to enable the connection of large-scale offshore renewable generation, management of distribution system fault levels, the operation of electricity, gas and other networks with smart technologies, intermittent renewable generation sources, electric vehicle demands, etc; and they include the storage of energy in electrical and other forms (such as natural gas, hydrogen, potential energy, etc).
The Project Manager is a key role managing projects that have been contracted out to consortia or single suppliers, ensuring that the client investment objectives in each project are met within time, cost and quality.
Principal Accountabilities
• Identification and engagement of suitable project participants; to facilitate the development of consortia to deliver projects where appropriate; to shape research proposals, together with colleagues from Legal, Finance and Strategy departments, that deliver the outcomes required.
• Negotiate project contract terms and conditions (including payment terms and IP)
• Manage projects to ensure delivery (to TCQ targets) of the desired project outcomes. This will be achieved using project management tools, methodologies and industry best practice.
• Technically review project deliverables, project progress delivered and evaluate proposed project variations ensuring delivery of the desired project outcome.
• Provide high quality and accurate Project reports both written and verbal.
• Ensure that the organisation discharges its duties as client in the relation to the management of health and safety of the projects.
• Liaising with and influencing senior stakeholders including those from Industry, Local and Central Government.
We are looking for someone who is able to offer the following:
• A degree in electrical power engineering or related discipline and have chartered status or equivalent experience. Relevant project management qualification/accreditation.
• Direct experience working in design and development of electricity distribution networks, distribution and/or storage plant and hands on experience of the commissioning and/or maintenance.
• Evidence of substantial experience in leading/delivering collaborative projects in excess of £1M to time, cost and required quality.
• Substantial experience in managing internal and external stakeholders at senior levels and facilitating/leading meetings, working with industry, local government and central government.
• Responsibility for the procurement and multi party contract negotiation in an innovative role such as technology development contracts. Knowledge of IP management.
• Strong analytical and problem solving skills including risk management.
• Strong IT and communication (written and oral) and the ability to produce clear, concise and accurate reports/presentations.
