Quantity Surveyor

Seeking a fully qualified Quantity Surveyor at Basrah Airport, Southern Iraq. This is a 23 month contract which is extendable by agreement.

This position is based at the UK MOD site at Basrah Airport & you will be responsible for the financial control of minor works within the secure defence confines of a military camp.

Reporting to the Minor Works Manager you will be responsible for providing commercial information incl orders of cost to the Asset Co-ordinator for the preparation of FMP’s, FMR’s and STP’s.

You will prepare works cost estimates incl appropriate assessment of & allowance for risk, monitor design development against cost targets up to tender issue & prepare tender documentation as required.

You will carry out Assessment Studies where ordered by the Client and will liaise with supply chain designers and M&E and B&CE Technicians through the vital design development stage, providing appropriate cost information.

You will prepare offer for F1097/1 purposes & submit for approval in accordance with applicable schedule of rates.

You will prepare interim valuations & prepare figure for invoicing for payment, value contract variations, prepare final accounts, undertake cost control functions against set financial limits, monitor procurement strategy to ensure value for money & agree sub-contract accounts where required.

You will be an accomplished Quantity Surveyor / Cost Specialist with experience supported by an HNC or equiv in a surveying related discipline.

You will have general quantity surveying experience gained in the construction industry.

Familiar with all aspects of financial contract control & experience in all aspects of the tendering process, from initial selection to submission of the final tender documentation. You will be aware of general tender procedures, & possess knowledge of the relevant legal and financial issues.

You will have an appreciation of the necessity for reliable systems, & a record of reliability & responsibility in carrying out duties & have experience in Company Control Procedures to BS EN ISO 9001, & aware of quality assurance issues in general.

Finally you will understand the objectives of the Quality Management System and adhere to all procedures under the Quality Control Plan.

Experience of working in post conflict, remote sites or in other arduous environments would be ideal as would experience of working with the UK MOD on overseas Defence Contracts.

You should possess a Drivers Licence.

Salary will be around £70k & tax free. All food accommodation, meals, uniforms & emergency medical care provided free of charge. You will work on a rotation basis of 10 weeks on & 3 weeks off. There is an End of Tour bonus payment of £6k also tax free & paid annually based on annual performance. Mobilization, De- Mobilization & r & r flights back to home base are provided by our client.
