Senior Engineering Manager
A key member of the Major Projects Design Team with responsibility for carrying out the duties of the Senior Engineering Manager as directed by the Head of Engineering & Design, including the management of multi-disciplinary resources, working with Senior Project Managers to provide solutions that meet defined stakeholders requirements.
Key accountabilities
Managing engineering solutions, which fully comply with UK legal requirements together with business case needs
Establishing, maintaining and communicating the engineering design programme, budget and work breakdown structure
Identifying and agree with heads of departments, and others as appropriate, the in-house resource requirement for the engineering design for projects within their portfolio to budgetary targets
Establish and maintain the design quality plans for their portfolio of Projects
Ensuring key project personnel undertaking engineering design duties meet the requirement to be suitably qualified and experienced persons
Contribute to integrated safety when reviewing engineering designs and ensure that all technical and design risks are identified and appropriately managed to meet project requirements and the intent of regulations
Ensure effective integration of design solutions within the safety case
Ensuring design decisions are recorded and auditable through the life of the project
Ensuring design information requirements are coordinated and communicated to relevant parties
Ensuring value engineering is undertaken in a timely manner
Responsibilities
Member of the Engineering Team
Member of multidisciplinary Portfolio Strategic Delivery Team and the Design House Steering group
Setting the design process for projects within their portfolio
To ensure that understanding and application of responsibilities with regard to company environment, health, safety, security and quality standards
Qualifications
A Chartered Professional of an appropriate professional Engineering Institution (i.e. Institution of Civil / Structural Engineers)
Knowledge
Undertaking design and configuration for the life of a project. Particular experience in the design of a variety of facilities including accommodation, research and testing facilities in both conventional and hazardous environments
Demonstrate a good understanding of technical standards and regulatory requirements for construction appropriate to conventional and hazardous environments
Understanding of the influences of design and operation on the installation, commissioning and maintenance requirements of a regulated site
Knowledge and use of New Engineering Contract and National Building Specification
Experience
Highly desirable to have extensive and relevant experience of co-ordinating design teams and a multidiscipline engineering resource within both conventional and hazardous environments
