Senior Internal Auditor - Deputy Head

To assist in the development, establishment and delivery of an organisation-wide professional internal audit service in accordance with the Internal Audit Charter.

• To deputise for the Head of Internal Audit
• Interact and present the audit strategy and key audit findings to the ML Audit Committee and the PLC Board.
• Interact with the Parent Company audit teams and develop a potential ‘guest audit programme’
• Provide internal audit services in accordance with the Institute of Internal Auditors - Code of Ethics and International Standards for the Professional Practice of Internal Auditing.
• To obtain senior management’s commitment to ensure effective internal control and governance is maintained within risk appetite.


Responsibilities
• Actively lead, with the Head of Internal Audit, the development and evolution of a professional internal audit service
• Perform complex, sensitive and high risk audits utilising a risk based approach
• Build and maintain strong relationships
• Support the “‘tone at the top” and corporate governance culture.
• Co-ordinate with other control and monitoring functions (risk management, compliance, security, ethics, environmental and external audit).
• Provide professional advice regarding systems implementation, control environments, and broader governance issues such as dealing with fraud and irregularities.

Qualifications
• Qualified Accountant or Accounting Technician and/or Institute of Internal Auditors professional qualification.

Knowledge
Essential
• Technical expert in modern audit techniques and project management
• Knowledge and experience of appropriate methods of managing common risks
• Awareness of corporate governance arrangement of different types of organisations.
Desirable
• Knowledge of the Oracle business suite or similar large ERP IT systems.
• Project lead and/or Involvement in large change programmes

Experience
• Extensive working knowledge of risk based internal auditing within a large and diverse organisation at a senior level.
• Wide experience of suitable controls to manage risks in a variety of relevant environments.


Skills
• Ensures the appropriate methodologies are used to implement the audit strategy
• Can effectively review audit work and ensure it is completed to an appropriate standard.
• Ability to make effective presentations to the Audit Committee and senior managers
• Ability to negotiate key audit findings with the Audit Committee and senior management
• Ability to provide creative alternative solutions where needed and to use initiative proactively in appropriate situations.
