Technical Director - Facades / Structures

The purpose of this role is to help expand the UK facade department, manage the technical and financial aspects of current and future workload, using the façade team globally and raise the profile of this leading multidisciplinary consultancy.
The successful applicant will be a key member of the Building Structures Team in London. The individual needs to have an established reputation within Façade Engineering. The role will require the management and delivery of each phase of a project by direct action, liaison and leadership of the project team. This Technical Director position, predominantly requires management of the technical aspects of projects but also requires a portion of the available working time to be dedicated to marketing and sales. The Technical Director will be a main interface between the company and Client and as such must possess good interpersonal skills, have a broad working knowledge of all aspects of façade design, manufacture and installation and be able to deliver a commission to a defined programme and budget by managing Client expectation and resources available.
Generally the role will involve the management and running of a growing department within this large multidisciplinary engineering consultancy.
Specifically duties will include:
PROJECTS
Project set up, following award, using company systems
Monitoring and reporting on project status (financial, programme, resource and Client satisfaction) using prescribed tools and procedures
Working with The Architect and Designer (if necessary) to develop concept details of a façade system to suit the required aesthetic, building type, building use and local climate providing budgetary advice where necessary.
Management and/or checking of:
Preliminary engineering design and checks of façades and steel structures/architectural features
Reports produced by other members of the team
Working with the architect and designer (if necessary) to develop the design and specification of the façade system to a stage that it can be used by the architect to generate details for tender of the façade package
Liaison with the Client or other project consultants concerning any issues relating to the façade scope or commission
Checking and commenting on specifications for the proposed façade systems
Checking and commenting on façade contractors full system calculations and system shop drawings
SALES / MARKETING
Identification of potential new / repeat works
Active interaction with prospective clients
Preparation of project bids / tenders / pre-tenders
Liaison with The Client in negotiating fees
Developing and growing the UK markets
Build the facades team in line with the growth.
A broad range of projects will be undertaken both in the UK and overseas with varying levels of complexity. Travel to the countries in which the project is to be constructed will be required on a short term visiting basis as part of this role.
