International Financial Analyst

Key objectives:

As a Business Partner, you will provide oversight and development of the financial arrangements of Trust funded initiatives and projects. You will take the lead in ensuring that institutions have finance governance structures and controls that address financial risks, and support the research aim of the initiatives.
You will partner and liaise with key stakeholders who can be senior managers and other stakeholders of the Trust as well as the Directors of Trust funded initiatives and projects.
As a significant part of this role will involve financial monitoring of capacity strengthening initiatives in Africa, travel may be required.

Main duties (responsibilities and accountabilities):

*Ensure robust financial governance and controls for new entities such that funding is used for the intended purpose and which enhance the ability of the researchers' to undertake their activities.
*Monitor and evaluate the potential risk of existing entities and consult with Finance partners to develop an appropriate level of risk mitigation.
*Review and analyse financial management information of high value grants made to high-risk institutions. Undertake variance analysis and investigate as appropriate.
*Support the Funding Division and Grants Management in assessing progress of grants through analysis of expenditure and recommendations on controls.
*Work within Finance and across Science, Grants Management and Legal divisions to develop and roll out appropriate internal mechanisms for funding to institutions funded.
*Undertake financial due diligence on institutions applying for Trust funding (Eligibility Checks).
*Proactively provide support to other FPR members as required from time to time.
Person specification:
*Fully qualified Accountant
*Big 4 background desirable
*Experience of developing and implementing strategies for finance functions for entities in low middle income countries
*Excellent understanding of financial governance
*Project management skills
*Be willing to occasionally travel to parts of Africa
