4480 - Distribution Centre Manager

Our Client is a leading supplier to the foodservice sector in the UK, Ireland, France and Sweden. They are currently seeking a Distribution Centre Manager to manage new DC operation to be based in Essex. The role is permanent.
This is a fantastic opportunity to lead from the early stages of this exciting process and therefore successful applicants should already hold a very senior position or be fully equipped to move into such a demanding role.
Reporting into a Regional Operations Manager, the successful candidate will be ultimately responsible for all aspects of operational performance.
You will plan, organise, direct and control one of our clients busiest DCs.
You will lead a team of over 400 colleagues. Over a 12 month period you will handle over 20 million items and make over ½ a million deliveries!
You will be responsible for the total site and operational responsibility; responsible for the Distribution Centre operational plans - establish and review distribution plans, responsible for budgets and KPIs/performance targets.
You will have financial control within budgetary remit - distribution/warehouse operational efficiency.
You will ensure a high level of customer service to all sectors of the business.
You will provide proactive interaction with sales colleagues to drive the overall business plan.
You will seek out 3rd Party / Backhaul opportunities.
You will establish a positive working culture, driving high levels of colleague engagement and retention.
You will be responsible for the development of management potential on site, creating leaders for the future.
You will ensure all Health & Safety and Legal obligations are met and adhere to Company policies and procedures.
You will effectively lead a multi-disciplined workforce through a flat management structure.
You will effectively manage all internal stakeholders.
You will ensure that the relevant department heads maintain focus on operational efficiency.
You will actively be involved in specified project management.
Finally you will be responsible for creating a "best in class" distribution operation and a strategic plan in line with Company growth plans which will deliver a competitive advantage for our client.

Knowledge and Skills:

To be successful in this demanding role you will need to be an accomplished Depot General / Distribution Centre Manager with intimate knowledge of the logistics industry within a multi temperature environment.
You should have proven leadership, management and change management experience in a distribution business and held a compromable management position in another logistics organization.
You will have strong financial and commercial acumen, high energy levels, and excellent customer relationship skills.
