A leading oil and gas company with an international presence is looking to recruit a Senior Accountant to join the Group Finance team.

You will be newly qualified and ideally have 1-2 years commercial experience gained from either a FTSE, Oil & Gas or Commodity driven business. You will be working in a high calibre team and must have the ability to interact with colleagues at all levels. Therefore a confident but personable individual is required.

Duties:
* Monitor developments in UK GAAP to ensure that the holding companies prepare accounts in accordance with UK GAAP, which could convert to FRS 101 ('IFRS-lite') in 2015;
* Provide technical reviews of the statutory accounts of holding companies and assist the head office reporting team to ensure the accounts progress through audit in a timely manner;
* Assist with impairment review process for investments and debtors held by the UK holding companies;
* Monitor developments in accounting policies, to ensure that the client is totally compliant with those requirements. Action projects, as required, to ensure the group remains compliant;
* Provide technical accounting input into major accounting projects, such as changes in GAAP to ensure that results are robust and properly presented. (Recent examples of such items include the changes in functional currency of holding companies in 2008 and 2012 and the adoption of IFRIC 12 in 2010);
* Plan and coordinate training and review activities, as appropriate, to ensure that Group accounting policy is adopted consistently throughout
* Provide technical accounting input into investment control activities and 'early warning report' issues to ensure that the accounting implications are properly considered. This will involve researching and writing accounting papers which interpret GAAP and the client accounting policies correctly;
* Perform detailed reviews of impairment papers prepared, checked and reviewed the sum of the parts analysis to ensure the client goodwill carrying amount and long-life asset carrying amounts are recoverable.

Person Specification:
* Qualified accountant
* Strong knowledge of UK GAAP and IFRSs, developed in a technical role in an accounting practice
* Expertise in the application of IAS 39
* Prepared and reviewed statutory accounts under both IFRSs and UK GAAP.
* Kept up to date with developments in financial reporting practice.
* Experience of managing staff,
