My client is a market leading manufacturer of technology for defence applications. Due to continued and sustained growth they are currently looking to add a Principal Engineer to the Electronic Equipment Team on a permanent basis. The Electronic Equipment Team is responsible for the design and delivery of Electronic Sub-systems. The successful applicant will have a solid background in Electronics and have the ability to manage technical individuals. Please note that due to the sensitive nature of the products you must be able to obtain SC Clearance.

Role Description
- You will lead multi-discipline teams and manage various stakeholders to help develop advanced defence products in a dynamic and technically challenging environment.
- The role requires both technical and management experience and is an ideal way to gain visibility across the company and hands-on experience of complex sub-system development. (The role is not a 'hands on' role in the sense that the successful candidate would not be expected to be doing detailed design or lab type work.)
- The role does however require someone who understands electronics engineering and design sufficiently to make educated decisions about architecture, planning and risk in the context of a complex electronics development programme. The role requires someone that can manage and develop a group of detailed design engineers / technical leads and take accountability for the engineering decisions that his / her team are taking.
- To be the subsystem design authority.
- To be the budget holder and programme manager.
- To manage sub-system tasks into other functions.
- To manage sub-contract activities.


Qualifications / Experience
- Proven Electronic Designer with substantial relevant experience and a broad knowledge and background in electronics and electronic technologies, preferably within harsh environments;
- Solid track record and evidence of managing the development and delivery of electronic equipment;
- Excellent teambuilding and management skills with the ability and experience of managing technical individuals within large, multi-disciplined teams (up to 20 team size);
- Highly developed planning and organisation skills with the experience and ability to manage multiple projects at any given time;
