The Role

The Head of Health Safety & Environment will act as Professional Head of Occupational Health and Safety and Environment for the company, leading and motivating the team to deliver exceptional standards of health, safety, environmental and risk assessment to the business.

Responsibilities include development of the annual Safety and Environment business strategy and plans, budget control, implementation of best in class processes to drive a culture of safety excellence throughout the business and delivery of the environmental assurance programme and related compliance and audit procedures.

Our client is a major national company delivering services on a daily basis in a highly regulated industry with a focus on Safety underpinning every policy, process and procedure of the business.

The Person

The successful Head of Health Safety & Environment will be educated to degree level or equivalent with membership / qualifications from a relevant professional organisation (e.g. CMIOSH, AIEMA etc.). You will have extensive experience in a senior safety and environment role within a low frequency / high consequence / safety critical industry (oil, gas, rail, defence, petrochemical, aviation, airline, airport, marine, energy, nuclear, utilities etc.) and excellent leadership qualities to lead and motivate your team.

You will be able to manage complex stakeholder relationships, instigate change and bring an enthusiasm for new ideas and continuous improvement. A full understanding of safety critical compliance, regulation, policy and procedure combined with risk assessment, safety management systems and Best Practice transferable skills is essential.
