Quality Manager

Based Leeds (with some European travel)

This is an excellent career development opportunity for a quality professional to join an expanding UK site, whilst taking strategic responsibility for quality development with major blue chip European Customers. You will also provide direction to Aptar Food & Beverage Europe to develop a cohesive and strong statistical approach to quality improvement and a move towards zero defects.

Aptar’s 24/7 injection moulding and assembly facility in Morley, Leeds (just off the M62) is currently undergoing major expansion and £multi-million investment programme, ahead of major new product introduction, for major European customers, which will see the site grow by 25% in 2016.

Reporting to the Director of Operations, you will be responsible for setting and maintaining best in class quality standards for a high end packaging business, serving demanding customers with strong brands. The site is ISO 9000, ISO 14001, BRC and OHSAS 18001 accredited. You will provide leadership to internal quality teams and be responsible for developing an enhanced quality assurance culture across the site, through effective Operator education and training, effective audit procedures, route cause analysis etc. in order to proactively manage and exceed customer quality expectations.

The successful candidate will be a Quality professional, ideally with formal quality qualifications, who has had experience of a complex product portfolio, and who is comfortable working with fmcg branded goods customers. Food/beverage packaging experience would be advantageous, as would the ability to speak German but are not essential. Strong communication skills and an analytical mind are required, along with a good command of statistical and manufacturing techniques. The role will be UK based but candidates must be prepared to travel to customer, and other Aptar manufacturing sites, in Europe. They will have the gravitas to command respect both within the business and with key customers and be demanding individuals who are not prepared to compromise quality standards.
