Our client is an independently owned and highly successful technology led manufacturing group with their Head Office based in West Yorkshire. Engaged in the design and manufacture of precision instrumentation assemblies and components, they supply bespoke solutions alongside a comprehensive standard product range to the Space, Aerospace, Defence, Scientific Instruments, Optical and Medical Device sectors.

The Head of Sales will be responsible for energetically delivering a strong commercial performance across all parts of the business, through the nurturing of high level contacts and the effective leadership of sector teams. Essentially the role will act as commercial understudy to the Managing Director and has the potential to lead to a senior general management role in the future.

The Head of Sales responsibilities will include:

• Leading and providing strategic direction to the commercial functions of the business.
• Developing and executing profitable growth plans for the business.
• Hunting new opportunities in major industrial markets and forming high level, long term business relationships with clients.
• Identifying valuable emerging markets.
• Producing competitive bids and proposals.
• Leading detailed negotiation on technical, contractual and commercial levels.
• Forecasting future sales and forming sales plans to adapt to technological changes and advances in the market place.
• Liaising with the customer, and in house commercial, engineering and manufacturing teams to identify customer needs in support of the manufacturing process.

The Head of Sales will be required to:
• Develop customer engagement techniques to shape thinking.
• Have an outward focus.
• Have a passion for quality.
• Be skilled at selling value in both services and products.
• Have a flair for innovation and the ability to capitalise on and develop the existing talent, creativity and expertise within the technical and commercial teams.
• Understand scientific concepts, terminology and methods.
• Have a creative approach to problem solving.
• Have an ethical approach to the business and people.
With a sales professional’s natural intuition you must have a scientific mind coupled with a probing and inquisitive nature. You will already be showing the potential for strong leadership and motivational skills.
