Logistics Manager

This is an excellent opportunity for an experiences Logistics professional with an understanding of global trade flows and the affect these can have on the availability of Logistics services.

Our client is a major chemical company with the need to transport approx 1.5 million tons of feedstock and product annually.

The successful candidate will be responsible for providing a variety of transport services including pipelines, chartered shipping, logistic service operations (bagging and warehousing), road and rail haulage as well as the procurement of specialist packaging.

Due to the nature and variability of the businesses, flexible solutions need to be established as requirements can change quickly e.g. the chartering of ships or the arranging of hauliers at very short notice.

Principle Accountabilities:

Maintain knowledge of Global, European and UK legislation related to the transport of chemicals and polymers
Track market changes in the shipping, container, road and rail transport, services and packaging markets
Development of the long term strategic vision for the Supply Chain in line with the UK business strategy.
Deliver short and long term procurement strategies for the required supply chain 3rd party services in order to meet both the service needs of the business and the budgeted cost targets.
Identify lead and develop projects in order to both improve efficiencies and drive logistics costs down.
Develop a well-motivated and efficient logistics procurement and project team focussed on purchasing the required business, site and customer service needs.
Develop a business recognised expertise in logistics markets in order to establish a focal point for logistics operations and costs and understand the technical and commercial factors required to achieve the development of lower cost options and improved performance.
Be responsible for the annual supply chain budget and deliver the budget at the required time.

Requirements:

Recognised university degree qualification in a technical/ numeric discipline e.g. engineering/ science).
Demonstrable experience in Business, Supply Chain or Procurement with a strong logistics understanding in a wide range of logistics areas, haulage, shipping, terminals etc.
Strong commercial & negotiation skills
