Lead Product Design Engineer - Saffron Walden, near Cambridge
Salary: GBP 40,000 - GBP 65,000 on experience

An excellent opportunity for a Lead Product Design Engineerto join an established technology consultancy company where no two projects are the same. This company provides design services to a range of markets including industrial, scientific, defence, communications and medical; designing and supplying clients with their own electronic products. The Role
You will be taking on a leading role, working within a team of experienced Product Designers who are responsible for all aspects of product design. You will be working with a range of clients from various markets who are based both in the UK and overseas.
This position would suit a candidate who is enthusiastic about technology development and innovation, enjoys variety within projects at work, likes learning new skills and relishes a challenge.
Training, professional development and all the support you need to do a great job is provided. This is a newly created position so presents a great chance to make the role your own, with opportunities to take on full responsibility for other members of the team as the role develops.
Key responsibilities
* Working closely with clients on highly technical projects; responsible for all aspects of product design
* Capturing product requirements from clients, developing customer facing skills
* Working on the full cycle of product design and development: generating design concepts right through to detailed mechanical design and PCB layout
* Taking a hands on approach to mechanical or product design activity
* Providing technical guidance and direction to the rest of the team
* Business development activities
* Supplying vision and technical consultancy to the market, giving shape to the type of work the team undertakes
Essential requirements
* A technical degree or equivalent qualification
* A solid background in mechanical or product design through to production
* Strong customer facing skills
* Experience writing proposals/articles or giving presentations
* A genuine enthusiasm for technology
* Previous experience working with electronics and/or software is desirable but may not be essential
* Previous experience of team management within a similar environment may be advantageous
