My client, an award-winning Publishing House is looking for anexperienced Senior Backend Engineer to work in our Mobile Apps team.
Currently fully remote but after lockdown, you will be expected to come into the Central London office twice week.
The Publishing House is one of the largest commercial publisher and digital platforms in the UK and is home to the UK and Ireland`s most iconic digital platforms, magazines and newspapers. Last year they sold millions of newspapers, with millions of readers for just one of their brands each month.
Their network of websites is extensive and provide 24/7 coverage of news, sport and showbiz stories, with billions of page views per year.
About the project
The Apps project has a rapidly growing team of engineers divided into three small pods - Android (Java/Kotlin), iOS (Swift), and newly also React Native. We enjoy a substantial degree of independence, rarely seen in a large and established company, such as this Publishing House.
Our apps are delivered to a broad audience, with over 1.5 million active users across more than 40 fully native apps. We believe in automation to boost our productivity, using modern test frameworks, CI/CD services and other tools.
Our back-end runs mostly in AWS with a strong preference for serverless services.
What will the role involve?
Work closely with client product teams to provide required functionality on the back-end side.
Design architecture of our back-end AWS stack
Participate in agile ceremonies
Review code
Keep up-to-date with trends and technologies
Analyse requirements for new features
About You
Is a strong team player, able to step up when needed and be honest and caring about your colleagues
Writes pragmatic, performant, and clean code that works consistently across devices
Is passionate about code quality and motivated to improve the codebase on a regular basis
Who are we looking for?
Good knowledge of one of cloud platforms such as AWS, GCP or Azure, especially serverless
Node.js
Knowledge of at least one of CI/CD tools, e.g.: CircleCI, Jenkins, Codeship, etc.
Unit testing with Jest or similar testing framework
