Underwriting Governance Manager

Our client, a leading specialty insurer and reinsurer, is looking for an Underwriting Governance Manager. Reporting to the Head of Underwriting Governance the key responsibilities of the role include the following:

• Assist with the design, implementation and development of the underwriting control framework across the company, specifically in relation to Underwriting Authorities, Peer Review and the Underwriting Controls & Procedures
• Oversee the company’s Underwriting Controls and Procedures ensuring they remain relevant and up to date and to be a sounding board to the Head of Underwriting Governance
• Ensure Class Underwriting Frameworks are reviewed in-line with the control frameworks, and signed off by Underwriting Governance accordingly
• Ensure underwriters adherence to underwriting controls as set out within the Underwriting Controls & Procedures through a suite of exception reports, ensuring any exceptions are investigated and reported to the necessary committees and forums
• Assist in the oversight of the external peer review process, including managing costs, review reports and act as an escalation point for issues
• Support the Head of Underwriting Governance to implement the agreed strategic control objectives and act as the deputy to the Head of Underwriting Governance, where necessary

Skills and Experience required includes:

• First class communication, presentation, influencing and mediation skills
• An ability to withstand the most stringent internal and external scrutiny
• Relevant insurance sector knowledge and, ideally, Lloyd’s experience
• Ability to demonstrate a clear grasp of the critical success factors for the business
• Ability to simplify, analyse and explain complex issues
• Ability to build trust and effective network of contacts both internally and externally
• Professional and approachable with can-do attitude to successfully interact with Senior Management/colleagues/external suppliers
• Proven track record in being able to review processes and determine opportunities for improvement and deliver necessary changes
