My client, UK`s largest news publisher is looking for a Product Manager to join a small, agile development team that supports their editorial titles by undertaking quick, tactical changes to their publishing systems and digital products. This is an opportunity to learn about all aspects of digital news in a dynamic, fast-moving environment and deliver product functionality that will be seen by millions of people.
My client has an award-winning digital portfolio comprising more than 50 titles, ranging from national publications such as Mirror Online, Express and Daily Star and large regionals such as Manchester Evening News to smaller county, city and specialist titles. They reach over 150m monthly unique users and they are constantly expanding their digital portfolio, adopting new technologies and evolving their products to meet changing user needs.
The role reports to the Head of Product, Established Products. The product development team is based in the City of London, near Monument Tube station, but the role may also involve some travel to their regional offices.
Principal responsibilities
The Rapid Response team undertakes quick, tactical projects to support their editorial teams as they respond to the news agenda in a rapidly evolving, highly competitive publishing environment. The product manager works with stakeholders to clarify and prioritise incoming requests. Supported by a small, agile development team, they scope and size the requests and deliver improvements, fixes and new functionality.
Working across a mixed backlog, you must explore and understand requests quickly and find solutions that can be implemented rapidly to maximise the teams impact.
Required key skills (functional/technical)
* Gathers, clarifies and consolidates requirements from stakeholders
* Uses available data to estimate the business value of requests
* Works with developers to propose solutions, scope and size projects and estimate delivery time
* Consults with key stakeholders to prioritise requests
* Manages the backlog and ensures rapid turnover
* Makes use of agile methodology in a small, self-organising team
* Communicates effectively and keeps stakeholders updated on progress
Required qualifications/experience
* Degree-level education or equivalent experience
* 1-3 years in product management, ideally including roles in media companies
* Experience with agile working practices
* Experience in multi-stakeholder environments would be an advantage.
