Renewi PLC is a waste-to-product business employing c 8,000 employees over 250 locations in 9 countries in Europe and North America. Collectively they handle more than 15 million tonnes of waste annually, achieve a 90% recycling and recovery rate and avoid 3 million tonnes of carbon pollution.

One of the Group’s newest ventures in the UK is the Wakefield Materials Recycling Facility – a £100m investment to support the Wakefield City Council Waste Management Contract over the next 20 years. This 27-acre site employs 125 people and operates 24/7, housing a number of process streams ranging from a public household waste deposit centre, a dry material recycling facility, a residual waste treatment facility (MSW MRF, Autoclave, organic pre-treatment, anaerobic digestion and effluent treatment) and in vessel composting.

The Senior Operations Manager will be responsible for operations and engineering functions and injecting pace and rigour to ensure the teams are supported in investigating new ways to measure and improve production processes across the site. The role will also be responsible for developing and engaging the workforce to create a positive, continuous improvement environment. As a key member of the Contract Senior team, you will be responsible for the day to day management of plant operations requiring a practical, hands-on approach with the ability to route cause and problem solve and engage the workforce to ensure optimum levels of performance are achieved and sustained in accordance with license obligations and health and safety procedures.

Candidates will be degree qualified, preferably in a mechanical or chemical engineering discipline, with proven operational experience gained in a 24/7 process/manufacturing environment e.g. chemical, glass, polymers etc. Experience in waste management/recycling is not essential, however, you must have demonstrable experience of driving and improving process changes to drive efficiencies and financial performance, whilst having close involvement with the financial impact of changes to operating standards. There are excellent career prospects for a high achiever and we are looking for a confident, self-starter with ambition and a can-do attitude.
