Senior Software Architect - Insurance
London / Remote - London, Home Based
Our client, a leading specialist insurance software development company, is looking for a Senior Software Architect. The company is embarking on a period of significant growth and they see this as a senior and very important role to help them transition to a scale and structure suitable for the business opportunities that are presenting themselves at this time.
The company’s platform spans iOS devices, browsers and server-side APIs. It has been developed primarily in Swift and Angular, with other languages when necessary. All data is stored in the Couchbase NoSQL database. The platform is performing well.
However, they need to plan for the next set of challenges. The system is currently a coherent whole, with the primary functional difference for users being whether they work for a Broker or a Carrier. But they anticipate new types of user and locations other than London needing different behaviours.
The company has a multi-disciplinary development team designing, developing and testing the system. They have shown the ability to change the software safely, both extending its functionality and re-working it to address problems.
They are seeking a Software Architect capable of providing a top-level design for a business-critical software development, able to work with an existing team to plan the implementation of the changes. There are numerous stakeholders whose priorities will need to be understood and satisfied. At any time there will be competing suggestions for the next area to be addressed.
The company is almost entirely working remotely during the Coronavirus restrictions. They have continued to provide service to their customers and taken on new staff during this phase. They anticipate is that the return to office-based work is some months away and will not return as the five-day-per-week default that it was before.
