My client, a leading news publisher is looking for an experienced Backend Developer with an interest to work across the Full Stack. You`ll have experience working within a web development team, be self-directed and happy to work on your own initiative.

Ownership and communication are also key. We are looking for people who care deeply about the code they write while at the same time are able to bridge the gap between the technical and the business areas of the company effectively. We want people who look farther than the technical aspect of the work and care deeply about the human aspect of our products.

Key Responsibilities

You will be part of a team embedded in a much larger media organisation. We are organised around small and nimble product teams that have close contact with the editorial and commercial sides.

You will be designing, prototyping and implementing new exciting news products, and the work you`ll do here will be used by millions of people.

Our main stack is in Java, Node.js and AWS services, and we are strong believers in DevOps principles and infrastructure as code.

Other things we like to see in people are:

At least 1 yr experience with Java

Strong Core Java and Fundamentals

Java 8 Streams and Parallel Streams

Java 8 lambdas and knowledge of existing Java 8 predicates

Knowledge of unit testing and mocking framework

Experience of MySQL, PostgreSQL, DynamoDB.

Experience of Node.js/Express for server side development

Experience interacting with Escenic`s backend using its proprietary APIs

Knowledge of Groovy will be a plus

Familiarity with caching strategies.

Scale to handle large quantities of content data and high volumes of traffic across numerous websites

Performance optimisation

Functional programming

Team player, manage multiple tasks and priorities
