My client, an award-winning Publishing House is looking for a Snr Fullstack Software Engineer to join a small, agile development team in the context of a wider digital team that supports their editorial titles by exploring new technologies and partnerships in order to help monetisation of our content.
The Publishing House is one of the largest commercial publisher and digital platforms in the UK and is home to the UK and Ireland`s most iconic digital platforms, magazines and newspapers.
After lockdown, the role offers flexi working and 2 to 3 days a week remote working and they strongly believe in autonomy in their day to day jobs.
Key Responsibilities
The team is focused on testing the performance of various monetisation schemes running on our websites and implementing new ones, as much as exploring related technologies.
You will be liaising with the team`s Product Manager and other relevant stakeholders on a daily basis to understand their priorities and apply technology to develop and optimise our online publications.
You will be responsible for designing, testing and implementing improvements to our news products, and the work you`ll do here will ultimately be consumed by millions of people.
The job as it is specified requires someone who takes great pride and interest in a given subject area and has a capacity for professional dedication.
The job also demands someone who is intent on producing a high standard of work, keen to ensure that there are no errors and fully aware of the importance of deadlines
The work entails a fair degree of planning and thinking combined with level-headed judgement.
The Ideal Candidate
You will be a generalist, with backend experience and an interest in working across the full stack.
Some other things that we would like in a candidate (you don`t have to check all to apply!)
Development experience (most relevant is experience with Javascript / Node.js and React)
Familiarity with automated testing at different levels of the test pyramid
An understanding of HTTP, caching and how the web works
Optimising performance to scale to handle large quantities of content data and high volumes of traffic across numerous websites
Tech Stack
The clients infrastructure is in Amazon Web Services and as such they make great use of the different capabilities it provides. Their primary editorial tool is a Java based CMS on ECS that integrates with third parties such as Brightcove Video for specialist needs. Their supporting services are built with the appropriate tool as decided by the team. As some examples, they have services in Node.js and Java running on AWS technologies such as Kinesis, AWS Lambda, DynamoDB and ECS.
