My client, an award-winning Publishing House is looking for a Snr Fullstack Software Engineer, with Frontend Technology experience, to join a small, agile development team in the context of a wider digital team that supports their editorial titles by exploring new technologies and partnerships in order to help monetisation of our content.
The Publishing House is one of the largest commercial publisher and digital platforms in the UK and is home to the UK and Ireland`s most iconic digital platforms, magazines and newspapers.
After lockdown, the role offers flexi working and 2 to 3 days a week remote working and they strongly believe in autonomy in their day to day jobs.
We look after things like:
Acquisition of users through search and social optimisation
Features that encourage users to engage and move around our products
Features that encourage users of Reach plcs digital news products to interact with editorial staff and each other
Commenting on articles and interactive web chats but with the potential to expand into related features.
Tools to enable our editorial team to build relationships with users via two-way conversations, encouraging user loyalty and increasing return visits.
Tracking and understanding user journeys across multiple visits, from discovery to loyalty
Optimising the promotion of features that drive engagement and loyalty
Our infrastructure is in Amazon Web Services and as such they make great use of the different capabilities that it provides. Their primary editorial tool is a Java based CMS on ECS that integrates with third parties such as Brightcove Video for specialist needs.
The Ideal Candidate
The ideal candidate for this position will be a generalist, with an interest in working across the full stack. You will have experience working collaboratively within a web development team with a non-hierarchical structure, be self-directed and happy to work on your own initiative.
Some other things that they would like in a candidate (you don`t have to check all to apply!)
Experience with frontend technologies - HTML, CSS and preprocessors, templating, client-side JavaScript (including frameworks)
Development experience (they mainly use NodeJs and Javascript)
Familiarity with Database (they mainly use DynamoDB, PostgreSQL and MySQL)
Familiarity with automated testing at different parts of the test pyramid
An understanding of HTTP, caching and how the web works
Optimising performance to scale to handle large quantities of content data and high volumes of traffic across numerous websites
Java experience would be a plus
